About Me
Facts
According to Dr. Jade Woo, a psychologist, there are three side effects of childhood trauma that manifest in adulthood.
Trauma contributes to chronic illness, children who are under trauma will contribute to chronic illness in their adult life. According to the Virginia Commonwealth University of Medicine, the sexually exploited have higher cancer diagnosis as adults, even if they were exploited as children. It shows links to immune deficiencies, heart, lung and liver in their adult life.
Trauma complicates sexuality. The more trauma that a child has, the more access the child has to unwanted pregnancies, STI’S, and engagement in risky behaviour in their adult life.
Trauma confuses time and reality. Children who were traumatized have large gaps in memory in adulthood. Many adults who’ve had childhood trauma live in dissociation. They find themselves afflicted with multiple personality disorders; and the greatest threat of all, they may have the inability to feel hurt or pain. They may become “numb”.
